F100 Information

Putting Some Horsepower in Your F-100 (F100)

What happens if you put 400+ horsepower on a stock F100 frame and hard pedal it much? Pretzel with cheese please! Stock front 53-56 F100 frames are made to flex a little bit. You shouldn't box the frame with a stock front suspension set-up.

This applies if you install an IFS on your frame:

Do yourself a favor and build the frame up to match your engine torque and horsepower. Box the frame if you have an IFS system up front, install a 4-link or ladder bar rear suspension system and then add support. Better crossmembers are good to add strength. Be careful not to remove any crossmembers from the stock suspension unless you're sure of what you're doing. I've seen a lot of F100 frames with stock suspension that had vital crossmembers removed. One common crossmember that gets removed is the one that crosses the frame where the front cab mounts are. It connects both front cab wings (perches) on the frame. Often people remove the crossmember because they need the clearance for an automatic transmission. Removing that crossmember usually leads to sagging or cracked cab mounts and a cracked frame. That crossmember keeps the frame from twisting under the load of the cab pushing down on the frame wing.

Don't forget to add a drive shaft loop.
